Religious Dimension

The educational mission of the Catholic Church is clearly described by the American Bishops in their pastoral document, "To Teach as Jesus Did." This mission embraces a ministry, which integrates:

1. Proclaiming the Message of Jesus and the teachings of the Catholic church;
2. Creating an environment and opportunities for building Community;
3. Providing a variety of meaningful Worship and liturgical experiences;
4. Proclaiming the Church's social teaching in all areas of catechesis and providing opportunities to give Service, linking faith with action.

Southtowns Catholic School implements the Religion Curriculum of the Department of Catholic Education of The Diocese of Buffalo.

Southtowns Catholic School welcomes and does not discriminate against families of other faiths. It should be noted that all students receive religious instruction in the Catholic faith and attend all liturgies and prayer services.

Liturgy and Prayer Services

Students in grades K-8 attend Mass as a community every Friday school is in session and on Holydays. Teachers and students prepare liturgies and prayer services on a rotating basis.

Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist

Preparation for, and reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist takes place in the parish community. Parents are the primary educators of their children and are expected to be involved in the process and attend the scheduled meetings.

Curriculum

Southtowns Catholic School follows the mandates and regulations set forth by the New York State Department of Education, www.nysed.gov, and the Department of Catholic Education of the Diocese, www.buffalodce.org.
