Preschool 3 Registration Information

Our preschool has over 20 Years of Experience!

We want to personally welcome your child to the Southtowns Catholic Preschool. The first year in school is a great adventure away from home for children and is very important to later achievement in school.

The following information will assist you in helping your child make the happiest and best possible adjustment to Preschool and the many experiences of school. We feel that this information presented can help your child reach his/her potential.

Why Preschool?

The aim of Preschool is to provide a basic foundation for your child’s education. It is a program geared to make the transition from home to school as smooth as possible and to make each child’s first experience with school a successful and enjoyable one.

The Southtowns Catholic Preschool program is designed to help stimulate a good self-concept, providing each child with many experiences of achievement. Preschool children will work and create independently and learn to cooperate with others in a group. The program will provide opportunities for social and emotional development, inspire language development, and expand physical and mental growth.

How Parents can Help:

  • Let your child share in-home responsibilities, conversations, and activities.
  • Give your child duties around the house to develop self-confidence and responsibility. (Putting away toys, setting the table, helping with siblings, etc.)
  • Establish a regular pattern for sleep, meals, and play.
  • Teach your child to get dressed independently (how to put on, take off, and hang outer clothing).
  • Be sure your child listens to others and follows directions (one at a time) and check to see that the directions are carried out.
  • Teach your child to help others (brothers, sisters, pets)
  • Supervise television use.

 Objectives of Preschool

What is Expected of your Preschool?

There are many developmental and cognitive (thinking) skills that a child is expected to perform while in Preschool. These skills help a child into a successful student. Some of these activities are:

 - Getting into line when asked to do so.
 - Taking care of personal belongings.
 - Going to his/her seat quietly.
 - Raising hand when wanting to speak.
 - Following simple directions.
 - Writing own name or part of name (when developmentally appropriate).
 - Talking in front of class.
 - Walking in hallways and outdoors safely.
 - Taking papers home to parents.
 - Listening to teacher and other students when they are speaking.
 - Bringing notes to and from school, as well as other items that may be required for class that day.
 - Being able to answer questions when called upon.

Gently encourage your child to perform these simple activities at school. Once these skills become second nature to your child, he/she will encounter greater success in school situations.

What is Preschool all about?

Three Year Old Program Goal

Our Three Year Old Program is geared toward the abilities and attention span of three year olds. (The children who are 2 years away from kindergarten.) We help children develop social skills through play and interaction with adults as well as peers. We seek to provide cognitive development through concrete and "hands-on" activities. We engage children in both familiar and new experiences at a comfortable pace. Most of all, we strive to provide your child with a safe environment that is based on trust and affirmation.
