Winter Hats, Scarves,and Gloves Drive to Benefit the Newcomer Academy at Lafayette High School in Buffalo, NY
The Southtowns Catholic School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society will be collecting hats, gloves, scarves, etc. and donating them to the Newcomer Academy at Lafayette High School in Buffalo, New York.
The Newcomer Academy at Lafayette High School is a program for students in grades 8-12 who have only recently arrived in the United States. The students are refugees, immigrants, and students from Puerto Rico. They are all learning English as a new language as well as academic subject to prepare for graduation in four years. For the 9th grade students at NAL. this will be their first winter in Buffalo. These students come from warm locations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Burma, Nepal, Somalia, Yemen, and Bangladesh. The students and their families are in need of anything warm to help them through winter including gloves, hats, and socks.
Members from the NJHS will be collecting these items beginning November 13 until December 15, 2017.
