Meet Miss McDowell
She's definitely not your usual teacher!
Do what you love, love what you do. Teaching is something I genuinely love and care about. I attended Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts and Canisius College where I earned my degree in Elementary Education. I graduated my undergrad in 3 years and started teaching right away! I also minored in Dance, and concentrated in Math and Social Studies. I then furthered my graduate studies at Canisius College in Literacy Education.
I began teaching in the Catholic schools in South Buffalo, and then in Orchard Park. I have taught both elementary as a first grade teacher and Junior High where I focused mostly on 5th and 6th grade math. Teaching 1st grade was absolutely my favorite, however I still enjoy teaching math in the upper grades as it allows me to be silly and keep math exciting.
I am so happy to be here at Southtowns Catholic and have the opportunity to help students at all grade levels! The AIS program serves a great purpose here as it gives many students the opportunity for one on one or small group instruction, or extra help and practice on skills. It also offers a chance for any student to ask individual questions for clarification, and build confidence!
Besides teaching in schools, I also was a dance teacher for many years! I was a dance competition judge for many competitions. I even was a fitness instructor at a local gym where I lead a dance fitness class. It is so important to me to stay active and do what I love.
Outside of school I am a sports fan and that is an understatement! I LOVE the Boston Red Sox and continue to follow them. I also spend every Sunday at home watching every football game that's on. Pregame and postgame too! If I'm not watching sports on TV, I am at a sporting event.
That's me! Teaching, Red Sox, watching football, attending my son's sports games, or attending a sports game, what else is there? Almost forgot...pizza!
