Dear Parents/Guardians:
Your child is eligible to participate I instrumental lessons and band this year. Please read the information below. If you would like your child to participate, the form is available on my web page. Please fill out the bottom portion, and turn in by September 19. Instrumental lessons will begin on September 26. I plan to start lessons as soon as possible, so the sooner the better!
Instrument options: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion. Other options are considered if interested.
Instrument Rentals: Beginner students will need to either rent or purchase an instrument with accessories – Reeds or valve oil, cleaning rag, and lesson book. Most music stores in the area have rental programs including Hamburg Music Center and Al Hemer Music. The earlier you call to rent, the better the instrument your child will receive. You may also choose to purchase a student model instrument. If you purchase an instrument, you will need to cover any repair costs.
Practice: Beginning students should practice a minimum of 4 days a week for 15 to 20 minutes. Steady practice is extremely important for the beginning musician. Parents will need to monitor practice each week. Students will usually have 1-2 songs from their book and band music to practice each week.
In School Lessons: Students will be taken out of class for 30 minute lessons once a week. Lessons will be held in groups of the same instrument. They will not miss the same class each week. If there is a test, the student will miss their lesson and make it up at a different time. Schedules are posted outside the music room, online, and given to homeroom teachers each week.
Ensemble: Students will reach ensemble once they have demonstrated a commitment to practice and dedication to their instrument.
I look forward to working with your child this upcoming school year to make our music program successful.
