HAP is a summer camp specifically designed for boys who have just completed the 7th grade.
Over the course of its five weeks, the Canisius High School Higher Achievement Program (HAP) provides participants a dynamic blend of academics, athletics, and fun each day.
ACADEMICS:
HAP's curriculum caters to the needs of the 21st century student, utilizing small-group work, technology, and hands-on lessons in English, reading, and math. The themes and topics covered include that which was learned in 7th grade, as well as that which will be covered in the beginning of 8th grade. Material appearing on the Catholic High School Admissions Exam is also included.
FITNESS:
Minds aren't the only thing getting a workout! Athletics and active play are an integral part of the program. HAP participants engage in some form of fitness-based activity each day -- baseball, basketball, touch football, street hockey, soccer, handball, and volleyball. All are rooted in building a sense of teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
ACTIVITIES FOR ALL INTERESTS:
There are also a number of different electives boys can choose. Popular offerings include: art, drama, computers, community service, chess, and working on the HAP newspaper. Throw in field trips on Fridays to places like Darien Lake, Laser Tron, Griffis Sculpture Park, or the Niagara Climbing Center, and every week is HAP-pening!
SCHEDULE AND COST:
Programming takes place each day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday field trips are optional.
The fee to participate in the five-week program is $300. Students who are taking part in the Bison Fund Scholarship Program are automatically eligible for financial assistance. As a bonus, HAP participants are automatically enrolled in the Canisius High School Entrance Exam Tutorial Course and the school's Entrance & Scholarship Exam at no extra charge (a $90 savings).
