The Erie County Sheriff's Bomb Squad held a Robot Demonstration at Southtowns Catholic School on January 11th in the school gym. All students from Preschool to Grade 8 sat and listened to Bomb Technicians, Lieutenant James Welch and Deputy Neal Held, talk about the robots and what they use them for. They also explained how Math, Science and Physics play an important part in what they do. After the school assembly was over, the Southtowns Catholic School Robotics Club was able to drive the robots around the gym. The Bomb Squad consists of 6 FBI certified Hazardous Device Technicians trained in; basic and advanced IED electronics, advanced x-ray interpretation and diagnostics, improvised and homemade explosive remediation, Advanced Hand Entry Techniques, PBIED/VBIED render safe and countermeasures, explosive forced entry, post-blast investigation, and complete integration with the ECSO SWAT team.
