Principal - Mr. Marc Bandelian
Happy Advent to ALL,
As we enter into the Advent season; I do hope you and your families had a very Blessed Thanksgiving. I pray that you all stayed safe and enjoyed the time with family and friends.
I would like to recap all the great and wonderful things that have gone on here at Southtowns Catholic in the month of November.
Thank you to the LiVecchi Family and Chef’s that provided lunch for us on our Veterans Day Celebration on Nov.8th. I’d like to give a special thank you to American Legion Post #880 for providing a great program to our students on that day.
Our Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive was another great success. We would like to extend a very warm THANK YOU to our amazing school families for this year’s Thanksgiving food drive. We were able to provide a full Thanksgiving dinner for 8 families, and show a few people the true meaning of our Southtowns FAMILY! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of others during this holiday season! We appreciate each and everyone of you!
A very special thank you to Mrs. Johnson in the office for her help with this food drive and Mrs. Brod for purchasing extra pies and all of our wonderful volunteers and their children who helped to package containers.
Thank you to the Staniorski Family who chaired the Mother/Son Mass, Dinner and Nerf Night. Everyone in attendance had a great time. It was a special evening for all the Mothers and Sons who attended.
Thank you to all who have purchased candy bars. This year we switched to a new company Gertrude Hawk. The response has been very favorable. We will continue to sell the bars throughout the school year.
The 8th Grade will be selling Gertrude Hawk chocolate at the Annual Christmas Concert which will take place on Wednesday, December 11th at 7pm in the Main Church.
The Student/Virtue of the Month Mass will take place on Tuesday, December 17th at the 8:30am Mass. The Mass will be followed by a breakfast in the Community Room.
If you need to speak or meet with a teacher please call or email the teacher to make an appointment. All teacher emails can be found on the school website.
Please make sure you are sending in a note if your child is getting picked up or staying after school for an activity.
This year we have changed our dismissal policy. Please remember for those students who are being picked up I ask that once you sign them out please exit. This is for the safety of all students and staff who are still in the building. We cannot have people hanging around if they have no other business to conduct either in the school or on the parish side. I ask for your cooperation in this matter.
Please remember if there is a situation that occurs in your child’s classroom please make sure you are emailing that teacher first to gather information on the incident.
Last school year, Father Sean, myself and members of the school board met with LE3. I had school board members go out to the schools who currently use LE3 in their building. The board was very impressed in what they observed. There are two reasons we decided to sign on with LE3:
- We were impressed on what they offered for the students who stay afterschool. They focus on the fun, but they also focus on the academics.
- They offer parents the opportunity to drop off their child on the special days we have off. Also, they offer a great summer program that the students can take advantage of.
Dress Code Update: SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENT WITH THE EMAIL
I spoke with Miss Nicole regarding the school lunch accounts. She has been logging in the money to your child’s account. We are in the process of revamping the process in which we are keeping track of the students accounts. A letter will be coming home discussing the new policy. We are trying to make the process of keeping track of the monies as painless as possible for both the school and you the parents.
I continue to look for volunteers to help monitor the children in the cafeteria. I encourage all grandparents to come and volunteer in the cafeteria if their schedules allow it. If you or your child has any ideas for lunches please submit them to Miss Nicole in the cafeteria. She is always open to new ideas.
A letter will be coming home discussing the free and reduced lunch process here at Southtowns Catholic. If you haven’t already filled out the form earlier this year I urge you to fill it out and return it to school. We receive Title Funds from the state. These funds are used to purchase programs that will benefit all students.
I am still in need of substitutes for our school. If you have any friends or relatives in the teaching field and are looking for work please have them contact me. Also, if you know of any retired teachers that are looking for some work please have them contact me as well.

Advent Prayer for Families
Heavenly Father, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a great sign of your love. Guide us as we strive to walk in that love together as a family this Advent. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son. Give us the grace and strength we need every day. Help us to always trust in you. Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you. Come and dispel the darkness of our world with the light of your love. Amen.
