JANUARY NEWSLETTER

Happy New Year! Welcome back everyone! We are all very excited to start a fresh new semester filled with lots of fun ideas and activities!

We hope everyone had a great holiday season.

THANK YOU:

All of the teachers would like to thank all Moms and Dads for the fantastic & goodies we received for Christmas. We really appreciate all you do for us!

SELF HELP SKILLS:

We are encouraging al of our classes in self-help skills. It is essential for the children who are entering Kindergarten next year to be able to do certain things by themselves. For instance, putting on and taking off their coats. Being able to hang their backpacks and outer wear and at least try to put on boots or shoes is an important part of independence. Tues/Thurs classes will begin practicing putting on their coats and soon will be packing their own backpacks.  Please help us out by allowing them to do these things by themselves. We realize it takes a great deal of time and patience but the children benefit not only in self-help skills but it strengthens their fine motor skills (buttoning & zipping) and most of all gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment.

OUTSIDE PLAY:

Our children love to play outside. There are many days this winter that we will have the opportunity to do this. It will not be on days when the temperature is in the teens or when it’s snowing and blowing. We realize that packing snow pants, boots & mittens can be a bother only to find out we didn’t go out that day. It is also disappointing when most of the children have brought their outside clothes and some of the children have to remain inside because they did not. If you could remember to send them in each day in a separate bag along with your child we would appreciate it. Please do not put them in their backpacks as they do not have enough room for their clothes and papers to go home. The Children will not go out on Field Trip days, special occasions, or in the MWF classes on Wednesdays, which is their Music Day.

COMMUNITY HELPERS:

All classes will be learning about Community Helpers over the next several months. If you have an interesting occupation and would like to come in and spend a few minutes sharing what you do with the children, we would love to have you!!! Please speak to one of your child’s teachers or the directors about setting up a day and time…The children are very interested in what their Mom’s & Dad’s do!

THEMES:

The Tues/Thurs classes will have some fun with winter, penguins, nursery rhymes and Noah’s Ark.

They will begin picking out their whole name instead of the initial of their name as they arrive for class.

The MWF classes will be meeting  the  letters  “J”, “O”, ”E” & “G”. There themes will be “sounds”, Opposites”, “everyone needs a home”. They will be printing their name each day they arrive with upper case followed by lower case letters.

NO SCHOOL:

There is no school on Monday, January 18 in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

 CANDY BAR WINNERS:

Thank you again to all the parents who worked so hard selling our candy bars. This fund raiser along with the picture money we receive will pay for our Carnival at the end of the year.

We did have a tie for the TOP SELLER of each class. The cash prizes will go to:

Tues/Thurs AM ~ Gabriella Bartz Tues/Thurs PM ~ Kaleigh Jordan

MWF AM ~ Taylor Skretny  MWF PM ~ Paige Kubisty

SCHOOL CLOSINGS:

If either Lake Shore Central or Frontier Central are closed, we are closed. Please watch your local TV Stations and listen to WBEN radio. On a rare occasion, we would have a morning class and due to inclement weather in the afternoon, we would close. If this should happen, you will receive a phone call from us.

PROGRESS REPORTS:

Progress Reports will go home by the end of the month for all classes.

REGISTRATION:

We will begin registrations for the fall of 2010-2011 school year. The children in the Tues/Thurs and anyone in the MWF classes who may have siblings will receive a letter and registration form regarding next year’s classes.

As rumor has it…Southtowns Catholic Preschool 3 and 4 year old program will be moving to our North Campus.

The MWF will be offering a 3 day extended day program along with a 5 day extended program.

The Tues/Thurs classes will remain the same at this time.

The staff will remain the same.

I am sure many of you have questions regarding these changes. For this reason, and to give you an overview of our programs, we are scheduling a meeting for each class. They will be as follows:

Tues Thurs AM on Tues., Jan 26 @ 11 AM

Tues/Thurs PM – Wed., Jan 28 @ 2:30 PM

MWF AM – Wed., Jan. 27 @ 11:00

MWF PM – Wed., Jan. 27 @ 2:30

PEANUT ALERT ~ ALLERGY INFORMATION

This year we have several children at our Preschool who have allergies. One of the children
is highly allergic to peanuts, nuts and tree nuts. We are asking all parents NOT to send in
birthday treats or special snacks that contain peanuts, nut oils (including peanut).
There are a few children in each class with other food allergies. Before you plan on sending
in any snack, lease check with one of our directors to make sure it will be a safe snack
for everyone!! Thank you so much for your cooperation regarding this matter.
