PUBLICITY

Dear Parents:

We are looking for some great pictures and stories of our SCS students doing all of the

wonderful things that we do at our school to share with the world (or at least the greater

Lake View area)!!   In an effort to promote our school, we are looking  for stories to submit

to the Hamburg Sun and the Angola Penny Saver.  We would ask that if you take pictures

of our kids on field trips, in the class room, on the athletic fields, etc.

Please email those along with a brief summary of the pictures to:
communications@southtownscatholic.org
to the attention of Beth Berry or Jenna Barney

Thanks,

Steve Bojdak, SCS School Board President.

POSITIVELY HEALTHY

by Maureen Ferrino

  "HEALTHY EATING ON THE RUN"

As our lives get busy, we tend to eat out more than we should. Here are a few tips to make it a
 healthier Challenge:
   1. Take time to look over the menu & check for healthier options. Many restaurants have "light"
       choices
   2. Always eat half & take home leftovers for the following day.
   3. Stay away from entrees that are fried, buttered, creamed or crispy. Choose entrees that are
baked, broiled, grilled, roasted or steamed.
   4. For a lighter meal, order a side salad amd an appetizer.
   5. Boost the nutrition by adding a tomato, lettuce, peppers and other vegetables.
   6. Choose a baked potato over fries. Ask for the butter or sour cream on the side.
   7. At the salad bar, pile on the dark green lettuce, carrots, peppers and other vegetables and light
      on the dressing.
    8. If going to a buffett, fill up on salad, vegetables and fruit.
   9. Order pizza with vegetable toppings like mushrooms, peppers, broccoli, onions and spinach.
  10. Drink plenty of water before, during and after your meal.
  11. Share dessert with someone if you feel the need to indulge.

Emergency School Closings

When adverse weather conditions or other emergencies develop necessitating the closing of schools,
information is posted on our homepage at www.southtownscatholic.org and on
Channel 2, 4 & 7 and WBEN Radio 930 AM.
When it becomes necessary to close the Lake Shore or Frontier Central Schools,
the decision will be made between 6:00-7:00 am.
The announcements will be made as soon thereafter, depending on the individual station policy.
When EITHER of these school districts are closed, all public and non-public schools' served by these district
transportation department are affected. Therefore, when either the Frontier Central or the
Lake Shore Central School District is closed, Southtowns Catholic School and Preschool are closed.
Note:    Parents and students should consult one of the TV stations indicated above every morning during
the winter months. School may be closed or delayed for other reasons as will, i.e. boiler breakdown,
broken water main, power failure, etc.
Occasionally, adverse weather conditions develop during the school day. While all school officials are
reluctant to send students home early, it sometimes becomes imperative to do so. Parents are asked
to instruct their children and inform the school of alternate site delivery arrangements under such circumstances.
If parents wish to pick up students during a school day, the normal procedure for early release will be
used, i.e. the parent or adult acting on behalf of the parent will sign students out as per the early release
procedure. No student will be released to an unauthorized individual including neighbors, relatives,
friends without the written authorization of the parent or guardian.
On days when school is closed, there are NO interscholastic athletic games or practices or any other
after school activity unless specifically stated in the School Closing Announcement.
In the event of too many snow days, no school days will be added to our school calendar unless both
Frontier and Lake Shore districts follow the same schedule.
We will keep you informed as we receive the information from the school districts.
One final note: Please do not call police agencies, highway departments or the local districts concerning the possible

early morning closing of schools.

They are trying to deal with the emergency conditions and need as few distractions as possible.
