REMEMBERING OUR ANGELS

Class of 2008

8th Graders Model Their Class Hoodies!

Each year the 8th grade students design their class hoodies. Mrs. Jackson’s 8th Grade class handed in their sweatshirt design and they voted. Student, Trisha Hulbert had her design chosen by the majority. The final decision came from Principal, Mrs. MacDonald. After approving the design she said “This is a great design!”
Trisha said “I am so happy and honored my design won, I can’t wait to see them finished and everyone wearing them”

The philosophy at STC is to contribute to the development of the total student by providing a variety of curricula, and extracurricular programs fostering concern for others.

GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT STC!

The Class of 2008 received their class ribbons today. The ribbons are a sign of connection to school, friends and community.

This is a great class and will be missed.

Congratualtions Class of 2008!

POSITIVELY HEALTHY by Maureen Ferrino

Little Changes Can Make a Big Difference

It is not the best idea to severly restrict foods that we like when trying to lose weight. It is often the small, day to day changes that will impact on our health. For example: walking up one flight of stairs a day will result in one pound of weight loss per year. Eating one less donut per week can produce approximately 3 pounds of weight loss annually.

Here are some little changes that can result in an annual weight loss.

Substitute evening snack of a sweet with a piece of fruit-14.lb. weight loss

Reduce the intake of regular salad dressing by 5 TBSP/week - 4.5 lb. weight loss

Manually operate your TV (FOR MEN!!) - .6 lb. weight loss

Park 200 extra yards away from your work entrance - 1 lb. weight loss

Rise & stretch 5 times a day - 1 lb. weight loss

Walk one minute after each meal - 1.5 lb. weight loss

Walk 15 extra minutes a day - 8.3 lb. weight loss

Daily calories burned will vary from person to person, so the above numbers are averages.

Good Luck!

CLASS OF 2008 RIBBON DAY

Mrs. Jackson’s “Class of 2008” proudly received their blue & white ribbons during a ceremony after mass celebrated by Msgr. Rev. John Zeitler and Rev. Bill Tuyn. Immediately after the ceremony, Mrs. Zahradnik’s 7th grade class held a reception for their peers and then roasted them in fun. The eight grade students will be graduating in June and heading off to high school for a new beginning in September. Ribbons are used for many happy occasions but the blue & white ribbons the eighth graders were pinned with will always tie them to their days at STC.

CASH FOR CAUSES

Cash for Causes Hits the $3000 Profit Mark!

Did you know that the Tops/Martin’s fundraiser, CASH FOR CAUSES, is an easy, profitable fundraiser for Southtowns Catholic School?

CASH FOR CAUSES is a program that sells gift cards valid at both Martin’s and Tops at face value, with 5% of the purchase price returned to STC from the grocery stores.

For every $100 in gift cards purchased, STC receives $5.
100 families buying $100 in gift cards each week would raise $26,000 for STC in 1 year!
The gift cards are convenient & easy to use by families & businesses for groceries, prescriptions & even gas!

Can your family get into the habit of buying gift cards before shopping and purchasing your groceries with the gift cards?

Gift cards come in $10, $25, $50 and $100 denominations. They may be purchased through the STC school office, after Masses, and at the OLPH and St. Vincent Rectories.

We accept personal checks & cash for purchases. Multiple gift cards and special orders require a few days to process.

In just 4 short months, STC has netted $3,000 from card sales which is used to offset school budget. Card sales are increasing as the news is spreading. Please consider adding your family or business to the growing list of card purchasers!

As always, Southtowns Catholic School appreciates all the support it is given by our families and friends!

P.S. Martin’s/Tops has recently been purchased from Royal Ahold. The new management will continue with the Cash Cards for both Martin’s & Tops.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

When adverse weather conditions or other emergencies develop necessitating the closing of schools, information is posted on our homepage at www.southtownscatholic.org and on Channel 2, 4 & 7 and WBEN Radio 930 AM.

When it becomes necessary to close the Lake Shore or Frontier Central Schools, the decision will be made between 6:00-7:00 am. The announcements will be made as soon thereafter, depending on the individual station policy. When EITHER of these school districts are closed, all public and non-public schools served by these districts' transportation departments are affected. Therefore, when either the Frontier Central or the Lake Shore Central School District is closed, Southtowns Catholic School and Preschool are closed.

Note:Parents and students should consult one of the TV stations indicated above every morning during the winter months. School may be closed or delayed for other reasons as will, i.e. boiler breakdown, broken water main, power failure, etc.

Occasionally, adverse weather conditions develop during the school day. While all school officials are reluctant to send students home early, it sometimes becomes imperative to do so. Parents are asked to instruct their children and inform the school of alternate site delivery arrangements under such circumstances.

If parents wish to pick up students during a school day, the normal procedure for early release will be used, i.e. the parent or adult acting on behalf of the parent will sign students out as per the early release procedure. No student will be released to an unauthorized individual including neighbors, relatives, friends without the written authorization of the parent or guardian.

On days when school is closed, there are NO interscholastic athletic games or practices or any other after school activity unless specifically stated in the School Closing Announcement.

In the event of too many snow days, no school days will be added to our school calendar unless both Frontier and Lake Shore districts follow the same schedule. We will keep you informed as we receive the information from the school districts.

One final note: Please do not call police agencies, highway departments or the local districts concerning the possible early morning closing of schools. They are trying to deal with the emergency conditions and need as few distractions as possible.
