Miss Hull's 2nd grade is learning about adjectives. As part of their lesson, students walked around the room and identified the adjectives in different sentences for a fun adjective "scavenger hunt". Our teachers at Southtowns Catholic make learning fun!
Miss Wiktor's 3rd grade will have some friends in their classroom shortly. They are raising caterpillars! The soon-to-be butterflies are still still larvae, so students will see the entire metamorphosis cycle. How exciting!
Happy 100th day of school!!!!! This is such an achievement for our students! They are 100 days smarter, 100 days older, 100 days closer to their next adventure!
Today our friends in kindergarten and 1st grade dressed up as their future 100 year old selves. In 1st grade, they played "a race to 100" board game with each other, had a scavenger hunt where they had to find 100 animal cut-outs hidden around the room, and each student made a poster where they glued 100 items onto it. The class also filled out a chart of "Things Mrs. Grad has said 100 times". To finish, every student got a certificate for being 100 days smarter! In kindergarten, the class counted 100 fruit loops for a snack, made 10 groups of ten with paper, and stacked 100 cups to make towers. They too made a list of things Miss Richards says 100 times. The class did a scavenger hunt to find 100 Hersey Kisses and even did a writing assignment about something they want 100 of... On to the next 100 days! Miss Hull's 2nd grade ran a science experiment yesterday to see how many drops of water would fit on a penny. Students predicted the amount of drops that would fit before the water spilled over and then counted each drop to see what the penny could really hold. That highest count was 32 drops (was that your guess?)
We're still feeling the love from Valentine's Day! Look at all these sweethearts we have in Kindergarten! The class wrote read and wrote CVC words on hearts, sorted, and graphed sweetheart candies. Then to finish things off, they had a pancake party with all the toppings!!! We LOVE kindergarten!!
Thank you to our 8th graders for preparing and reading in today's Mass as we celebrated Ash Wednesday, the start of the season of Lent.
Mrs. Grad's 1st-grade class spent some time on Friday decorating their Valentine's Day mailboxes. These are just adorable and so beautiful! The creativity and thought these kiddos put into their special boxes is amazing. We can't wait to see their mailboxes filled with Valentine's.
Thank you to the moms who came to help with decorating: Mrs. Dhillon, Mrs. Fierle, and Mrs. Thie! Mrs. Collins took her Pre-K 3 kiddos outside last week to enjoy the warmer temps. Almost 60 degrees in Buffalo, NY in February? Yes, please!
Miss Hull's 2nd-grade class had a Superbowl-themed day on Friday (they had to make the most of it since the Bills weren't in it, right??)
The class wrote about team predictions, completed football-themed grammar, read about the Superbowl then answered comprehension questions, and played 3-digit addition scoot math games. It was a fun day for them! |
