Marian Fund & Volunteer Information
The purpose of the Marian Fund is to help keep tuition low by offering fundraising opportunities and to increase fundraising participation. Each family is responsible for contributing $400 towards the fund as well as volunteer service. Our volunteers are all trained in "Protecting God's Children". An information link can be found on the bottom.
Each time a family participates in a Marian Fund fundraiser, a portion of those proceeds will be credited to the family’s Marian Fund Account. There is also a “buy-out” option where a family can simply send in a check for the total amount. Throughout the school year, each family will receive an update on the total in their Marian Fund, as well as volunteer commitments met. A final statement will be distributed in May and the remaining balance, if any, will be due by the end of the school year.
Families have 2 Options:
Option 1 - covers all 20 volunteer hours for the year.
Option 2 - they are asked to choose 1 volunteer opportunity under section A, 1 under section B & sign up for three dates under section C. A will give them 10 credits, B will give 5 and C will give 5 to total 20 for the year.
We have two people who will oversee volunteers this year and will reach out to anyone who does not sign up by 9/30 and those people will be filled in as needed.

Other Ways to Support
Virtus - Protecting God's Children
Protecting God's Children® for Adults is training conducted by VIRTUS® certified facilitators on the prevention of child sexual abuse. The training makes participants aware of the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent child sexual abuse. Two videos are the centerpiece of the training: A Time to Protect God's Children™ and A Plan to Protect God's Children™. The facilitators incorporate policies and procedures into the training defining child sexual abuse, addressing the reporting of child sexual abuse, the screening and selection of employees and volunteers, and victim advocacy.
Each family is responsible for completing and returning your Marian Commitment Form at the beginning of the school year. Please honor your commitment! The Volunteer Book in the school lobby should be used to record and submit your volunteer time. It is each families’ responsibility to report volunteer time in order to receive credit.
Adults wishing to volunteer in activities involving direct contact with students are required to attend the Protecting God's Children workshop. We suggest that each adult family member attend a session at the beginning of the school year in order to fulfill this requirement. A schedule of upcoming workshops is available on the Diocese of Buffalo website under the “Chancery” tab. Click on the “Protecting God’s Children Workshop Registration” link for upcoming session information.
The positive synergy of the Southtowns Catholic School community nurtures a climate of togetherness, which in turn will perpetually benefit each student. SCS is blessed to have many talented and generous supporters who freely give their time and talent to create an educational haven in which our students may grow. We cannot exist without the support of our families and community.
Thank You!
