Welcome to Art
I feel fortunate to be a part of the faith-filled community that is Southtowns Catholic School and Blessed John Paul II Parish. The students are at the heart and soul of the school community with their parents and teachers collaborating as catalysts toward the process of excellence in education. I cherish my many years of Catholic education and now have the honor of bringing that faith and knowledge into the classroom.
I am passionate about the visual arts and feel that this is conveyed to my students during our time spent together. I love to see their faces light up when a piece of artwork comes together. They are thrilled and I am too! Each student and their artwork are respected in a safe, consistent, nurturing environment. It is my intent to facilitate each student’s success to his/her highest level. The creative problem solving that takes place in an art lesson generalizes into preparation for real life experiences. Mastery of techniques and media are explored in a developmentally appropriate progression, with an art history component allowing them to converse intelligently about the arts no matter what field they choose to enter.
I approach each child as an individual. Differentiated instruction is a technique that I embrace, as I also have worked with individuals as a Registered Art Therapist. My classes are strictly hands on and I live by the quote, “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I will understand.” I want the children to know they are valued for their own unique talent, personalities and backgrounds. This is what every artist brings to their work. By incorporating Christian values into our daily routine, we acknowledge one another’s uniqueness and incorporating our God given talents.
3/22/20 Hello Everyone. Hope all is well and you're finding interesting things to do. I'm asking you to p[ease email me some of your finished art projects. New projects will be forthcoming ( who has a drone they aren't using ?- only kidding) Probably email but we'll figure it out.
2nd grade- I'd love to see your framed self-portrait of what you like to do in the spring if mom or dad can email it.
3rd grade- Please send me a copy of your completed Buffalo when done. Looking forward to what images you are going to include for fun things in Western NY
4th grade- Would you please email me your cave painting quiz. I know the Matisse cut out is a big project so don't rush. I am so excited to see how you planned your composition. When done please send me a picture of it.
5th and 6th grade- I hope your graphed cross is going well. I think you were getting the idea of small shapes being made up by diagonals within the square. Don't rush-do a good job. Forward a picture via email when done.
7th Grade- I know you're having to learn a lot on your own with this project. The tutorials I gave you are great...practice, practice, practice, before adding them to your final patterned cross. I know this project will take 3 weeks or more so no worries.
Please email me a pic of it when completed - drawn, colored in with colored pencil and fine lined. Good stuff!
8th grade- A new project will be in a neighborhood near you- your email in the very near future. In the meantime please email me the two worksheets on the 2 Scholastic Magazines I sent home with you.
Miss you all !!!! My art work...As I take a walk most days, I take big sidewalk chalk with me and decorate different squares with statements and pictures, such as Have a nice walk with a heart, Enjoy the sunny day with a sun, Take care with a smiley face. Hopefully a little cheering gesture. Try it...it can't hurt.
