Hello, and welcome to Mrs. Gartelman's webpage

"How do we help all children become passionately engaged in the world of story? How do we teach them to know what it is to lose themselves in the drama of story? Reading aloud is part of the answer."

Read aloud to your child!
-
Research tells us that children who are read to have better school success than those who aren't.
What to do when reading aloud to your child:
* Let your child's interests guide your book choices.
* Make regular trips to the library with your child.
* Talk about the book you read...even wordless picture books stimulate thinking and generate conversation.
*Before you read a story:
- Make predictions.
- Ask questions.
- Connect the story to their own life.
* Read from a variety of genres to help broaden their vocabulary and word
knowledge.
*After the story:
- Have them draw a picture of their favorite part of the story.
- Take your child to the library and read another book by the same author.
- Help your child "write" a book similar to the one you've just read.
