I have been teaching at Southtowns Catholic School for 4 years. I teach Math for grades six through eight and Social Studies for grade six. Previously I taught Math and Science at St. Margaret’s School in North Buffalo and seventh grade at Holy Spirit School in North Buffalo. Homework
Homework in math is assigned nearly every night. It is graded out of 10 points. An incomplete or missing assignment will result in a loss of 10% the first day. Late work must be turned in the following day. If it is not turned in, a grade of 0 is given.
Homework is worth 30% of the overall grade.
Math homework is only accepted in pencil and all work must be shown every night. If no work is shown, 50% will be taken off. If you forget your math practice workbook, the page can be printed from my.hrw.com website.
Social Studies homework is only accepted in blue or black pen.
Tests, quizzes, and projects
Tests will be announced at least two days in advance. Tests are worth 100 points.
All tests must be signed and returned within three days, regardless of the grade.
Quizzes may be given at any time to check for understanding of material. Quizzes are worth 20 points. Students should always have their math books with them during class.
Projects are periodically assigned. Clear directions, deadlines, and grading rubrics are given.
Timed test in math will be given on a regular basis to some classes. These are given to keep basic math facts current. Practice is encouraged! Go to

Notebook checks
Notebooks (math) and study guides (social studies) will be collected periodically and checked for completeness and accuracy.Students are expected to keep notes and examples in order.
Grading Policy
Tests, quizzes, and projects - 60% of overall grade
Homework - 30% of overall grade
Participation/effort - 10% of overall grade (includes notebook checks)
Absences
If you are absent, you are responsible to get and make up any work you may have missed.
This includes getting notes taken during class.
You have one day to make up any work for a one day absence. Two days to make up work fro two days absence and so on.
If you are absent the day before a test, you are expected to take the test the day you return, as you were informed of all tests at least two days in advance.
Extra Help
After school help is available. Please set up a day to stay and remember to send a note with your child. Peer tutoring is also available on Wednesday mornings. Students will be paired with a National Junior Honor Society member to receive guidance in any subject. If you would like your child to participate and haven't already done so, written permission from parents is needed for this program. Informational flyers and an e-mail were sent during February.
