Educational Advisory Council (Formerly SCS School Board)

The Educational Advisory Council is a consultative body. Its functions are to work in concert with the Pastor and the Principal to recommend school guidelines, in accordance with Diocesan guidelines, to the Pastor, the Principal and the parish Finance Council, for their consideration and enactment, in their discretion, and to provide advice and assistance to each as requested by them, with regard to the parish school. The Educational Advisory Council does not have the authority, nor is its function to formulate policy. Regular communication between the Educational Advisory Council, the Pastor, the Principal, and the parish Finance Council is essential.
The Educational Advisory Council is expected to be a collaborative body with all members contributing to the discussion. The anticipated areas on which the Educational Advisory Council will have consultative input are long-range planning; school guidelines; developing and monitoring the annual budget, including recommending tuition and monitoring tuition collections; advancement and marketing; and in such other areas as are assigned to it by the Pastor.

The Standing Committees shall include the Executive Committee(including the Ex-Officio members), Finance/Budget, Strategic Planning, Education and Quality Assurance, and Facilitites. Membership in a committee may include Council and non-Council members but the chairperson must be a Council member.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
The President presides. The committee may meet regulary to plan the agenda for the regular Council meetings, or may delegate that function to the President. The Executive Committee shall have the power to transact all regular business of the Council during an interim between Council meetings, provided that any action shall not conflict with the policies and expressed wishes of the Council; and it shall report all matters to the Council at the next regular meeting.
FINANCE/BUDGET COMMITTEE:
The chairperson of the committee shall attend the parish's Finance Council meetings. Whenever possible, the Principal shall also attend.
The Finance/Budget Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending to the Council all fiscal guidelines, income and costs control procedures, investment practices and investment managers, an annual budget (in partnership with the Pastor and the Principal), insurance coverage and cost, tuition levels, developing a five (5) year financial plan, and for any other duties regarding financel matters as assigned by the Council. The Finance Committee shall provide regular written financial reports to the chairperson of the parish's Finance Council.
STRATEGIC PLANNING:
This committee recommends a short and long-range strategic plan for the School; updates both plans; at least annually, reviews and recommends a strategy for implementing both plans; coordinates with all other committees and the Council in the development and implementation of plans. The diocesan "model" Strategic Plan is a guideline for the committee.
EDUCATION & QUALITY ASSURANCE:
This Committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending curriculum, ensuring that the Principal conducts an annual evaluation of the teachers and staff, ssessing the educational guidelines and programs in meeting the academic, spiritual and social needs of the students, assisting in promoting the Catholic Identity of the school, developing and recommending to the Council educational procedured and guidelines, and assessing the overall performance against the strategic plan, and to recommend guidleines intended to provide financial resources needed by the school to achieve its goals.
ADVANCEMENT/DEVELOPMENT:
This committees
main responsibilit is to follow the general Principles of Enrollment as outlined in the "Advancing the Mission of Catholic Education" (Recruitment, Enrollment, Retention, Alumni, Publicity and Development). It shall be responsible for planning the overall development of Southtowns Catholic School and will involve cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and other fund raising (Annual Campaign).
FACILITIES:
The Facilities
Committee works in collaboration with the parish Buildings and Grounds Committee and the parish Facilities and Business Manager, is responsible for reviewing and recommending guidelines relating to capital repairs and overall maintenance programs for building ,grounds and equipment. This would include areas of safety, security and cleanliness of the building and grounds, building inspections and code requirements, five (5) year building and grounds plan, and government energy grants.
